When Apple holds its next special event on Tuesday, Sept. 9 (full details here), it’s near-certain that the new range of iPhones will be the marquee attraction. But a wholly unexpected new accessory could also steal the show: something called Crossbody Strap.

According to serial leaker Majin Bu, the Crossbody Strap is a lanyard kind of device which, “promises to blend style and innovation: the Crossbody Strap. Designed primarily for iPhone 17 cases, this strap offers a unique experience thanks to its design and versatility with other Apple products,” the report says.
It’s thought that it will be compatible with all the new models, that is, iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro, iPhone 17 Pro Max and a new slimmer model called iPhone 17 Air.
But this isn’t just any old lanyard. It includes “an innovative magnetic system, crafted to integrate seamlessly with iPhone 17 cases,” they go on.
The claim is that it will work through a flexible metal core designed to be magnetic across its entire length. Well, Apple does love a magnet, so the claim seems possible.
The strap will be made of a material similar to that used on Apple Watch Sport Loops, though a silicone variant, “offering a softer touch and greater flexibility,” is also possible.
Instead of conventional hooks or loops, “rings polarized oppositely to the strap close the system with enhanced strength, ensuring a robust hold,” the report continues.
It also shows the alleged strap in multiple colors, and drawings of how the straps will work.
The name Crossbody Strap first became mentioned by the same leaker in a report on new cases for the iPhone 17, said to be compatible with the new strap.
It’s claimed that production is underway and the new straps will be available alongside the new phones next month.
