While many mobile games have a feature that lets you muck around with the UI, not many mobile games are adapting a video game franchise that’s 11 years old, and has had a certain look for nearly that long. Enter, Destiny Rising.
I didn’t think I’d bother with this feature, but then I saw that someone used it to transform Destiny Rising’s HUD into Destiny 2’s HUD, at least as much as they could, returning to the classic layout instead of the NetEase standard one.
That someone is Krausader, who spent the time to move everything around and resize it and do everything else needed to emulate the Destiny 2 UI as much as possible. The catch here is that this is only for controller right now, but support for PC is coming soon.
There are two steps here, and the first is finding where to even do this. That is: Settings>>Controller>Control Settings>Controller Layout->Customize>Import. Simple! Who couldn’t have figured that out?
The second step is to use Krausader’s Import Code, which is: aLZTyxMF9mvqS5n8. You can copy and paste it, or just manually write it out if you want.
I’ve seen a few complaints that this or that icon or area is too big or small, but once you load this, you can still edit it further to your specifications, and just because you imported it that doesn’t mean it’s fixed. There’s also a note that the UI will change back to normal in social spaces, and you cannot remove a lot of the “extra” buttons that Destiny 2 obviously doesn’t have.
I’m using it! We have the super where it should be, and the special abilities around where grenade and melee would go, which makes sense in the context of the game. We also have health and shield up on top like the standard game, as I will say it did not seem terribly intuitive to have it on the bottom after 11 years of not looking there.
I thought the base controller setup was fine, and you got used to it. But this? I’m not taking it off until maybe a better one arrives, but this one is great for now. There have been a lot of comparisons between Destiny Rising and Destiny 2 this past week, and well, now you can bring them even closer together.
I’m absolutely not going to say Rising is a Destiny “killer,” but in many ways, it does seems like what the community has needed right now. That may not be the case in the future if the gacha aspects overwhelm it, but for now, you can jump in and easily play through the story mission, where the finale is accessible as of today. I’d highly recommend it.
