Following the reveal of a new Samurai Troopers anime back in June, the latest teaser shows more of the Demon Slayer style animation.

To give a bit of context here, Samurai Troopers was massively popular back in the 80s, so much so that it even came Westward as Ronin Warriors.

It had a big and popular toyline attached to it, as each of the anime’s heroes wore samurai-themed power armor.

In many ways, it was the Demon Slayer of its day, so it’s no surprise that this new sequel anime is getting a similar treatment in terms of its combat animation.

Samurai Troopers also had some really interesting production behind it, with the series being managed by mecha anime veteran Ryosuke Takahashi.

Having just come off Panzer World Galient, which was a medieval-themed mecha show, he also hired Masashi Ikeda to work on that anime.

When I interviewed Takahashi, he explained that for the third Galient OVA called Crest of Iron, he hired Ikeda because he often liked doing Mie-style poses for the mecha.

Unsurprisingly, Ikeda also directed the first half of the original Samurai Troopers TV series, which makes sense if you saw Galient.

Not to mention that the original anime’s character designer was the legendary Norio Shioyama, who had collaborated with Takahashi on multiple classic anime.

This time around, the characters are being penned by Yuhei Murota, who worked on Love Live! and has done a lot of key animation over the years.

This new sequel series is also retaining many of the original samurai armor designs by Hideo Okamoto, which is a nice touch.

Shin Samurai Troopers will be released in January 2026.
